Overland Park will get a Stroud’s Restaurant (8301 W 135th Street) of its very own this Wednesday. The fried chicken joint, which took on KC Hopps as an equity partner last year, opens its third area location at 11 a.m. on July 2 in a space that previously held Mimi’s Cafe. The Kansas City Star was the first to report the news.
Stroud’s has been in Kansas City since 1933. Founders Helen and Guy Stroud (today the Stroud’s in the area are owned by Mike Donegan) initially opened a barbecue spot at 85th and Troost, adding pan-fried chicken to the daily menu nine years later.
In addition to the familiar red and white color scheme, the decor will feature recreations of signs that once graced the restaurant nestled near the Troost Avenue Viaduct [That location closed at the end of 2005].
The new restaurant joins a location in the Northland at Oak Ridge Manor (5410 NE Oak Ridge Road) and another spot at 4200 Shawnee Mission Road in Fairway, Kansas.
Like the Stroud’s in Fairway, the Overland Park restaurant will serve a lunch menu from 11 to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday. Both will have Chicken Choker Ale — a custom brew from KC Hopps’ 75th Street Brewery — on tap. The Fairway location is currently closed for remodeling. It will reopen Thursday, July 3.
The Overland Park Stroud’s is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 913-499-0135.
