Socks & Hops. Whiskey Pioneers. KCFC Holiday Pop-Up.

Before there was a Manifesto, there was Manifest Destiny. Learn about the history of whiskey at The Wornall Majors House’s Whiskey Pioneers this Friday, November 13, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The program at the Alexander Majors Barn (8201 State Line Road) will feature a cocktail hour and tasting menu, a history of whiskey presentation by Dr. Matthew Osborn, an assistant professor of history at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Dark Horse Distillery whiskey tasting. Tickets are $50.

It’s a different take on the sock hop. Sock & Hops, a fundraiser for the Healthcare for the Homeless program and sock drive, is Saturday, November 14, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the City Market (20 W 5th Street). The event from Swope Health Services will pair sips from local breweries (Big Rip, Cinder Block, Crane, Double Shift, Torn Label and Stockyards Brewing) with bites from area restaurants and chefs (Pig & Finch, Anton’s, Genessee Royale Bistro, Nothing Bundt Cakes, The Sundry and Happy Gillis).

Tickets, which include admission and a souvenir tasting glass, are $45. VIP tickets (admission, designated parking, admission at 6 p.m., and a tasting glass) are $75. Designated driver tickets are available for $25. In addition to the admission, SHS is asking attendees to bring socks.

Go from hops to a pop-up. The Kansas City Food Circle is hosting a Holiday Pop-Up Shop on Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Arts Tech Building (1522 Holmes). There will be home goods, food (Borgman’s Dairy makes cheesecake in a jar), and crafts from a cast of local makers, farmers and artisans. The first 100 people, who bring a donation of non-perishable food for Harvesters, will receive a swag bag.
