With Kansas City Mayor Sly James looking on, Jimmy Frantze announced at a press conference this morning that he was reopening JJ’s Restaurant in the Plaza Vista building (900 West 48th Place) across the street from his original location.
“The main thing is JJ’s is back,” Frantze said.
The restaurant is expected to open in late summer with the same menu and an extensive wine list — the hallmarks of the restaurant that was destroyed in a gas line explosion last February. [The Pitch has an in-depth interview with Frantze about his decision to relocate and notes that more than 6,000 wine bottles were stored off-site.]
The new JJ’s will be nearly 4,000 square feet, on the south side of the lobby in the building that serves as the headquarters for Polsinelli. The restaurant will also have a patio with a Plaza view. Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, a Colorado import, is also expected to open in Plaza Vista this summer.
