Find your new favorite farmer at the Kansas City Food Circle’s Eat Local and Organic Expo. The 16th annual farmer exhibition runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Penn Valley Community College gymnasium (3200 Broadway). Meet growers, learn about local community supported agriculture options, and pick up seedlings for your own garden. The event is free.

Thomas Hart Benton may not have tipped one back at Kelly’s Westport Inn (500 Westport Road), but that won’t step them from celebrating his birthday. They’ll honor what would have been his 125th birthday today with a party from 6 to 8 p.m. And yes, there will be cake.

The Overland Park Farmers’ Market (7950 Marty) kicks off its season on Saturday. There’s meat, eggs, jams and produce, everything one needs to stock a fridge and pantry. And this year, the Upper Crust Bakery (7943 Santa Fe), which has a shop in downtown Overland Park, will be slinging pies.

The Bread & Butter Concepts’ restaurants are celebrating spring with a series of patio opening parties. Urban Table (8232 Mission Road, Prairie Village) will have a crawfish and shrimp boil from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday with Oskar Blues beer, Bombora vodka and live music from The Miss Major Trio. Taco Republic (500 County Line Road, Kansas City, Kansas) is holding its own fiesta Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. Fill up on tacos, Suerte tequila and Negro Modelo beer specials.

Don’t think you can save the earth on an empty stomach? The Prairie Village Earth Fair has got you covered. A trio of food trucks — Cajun Cabin, CoffeeCakeKC, and Prairie Fire Oven — will all be at the sustainability festival that runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Shawnee Mission East High School gymnasium (7500 Mission Road).
