An observant reader and regular commuter along State Line Road reached out to ask what’s going on with Driftwood BBQ — the barbecue food truck from Allison and Brian Bloch. For the past two summers, the Blochs set up in camp in the parking lot at 103rd and State Line. But this year, they’ll be taking the season off. Per their Facebook page:
Unfortunately we are not going to open Driftwood this season as our new baby has just arrived. Thank you all for your support. Hope to see you next season!
Driftwood cranked out solid barbecue (ribs, brisket sandwiches and Italian sausages) on a hickory smoker. With pitmaster Brian Bloch’s background (he’s a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu who’s cooked at Le Fou Frog and Cafe Provence), their sides were a twist on the standards — honey-lime coleslaw and barbecue rubbed-fries (also available under a heap of bacon and blue cheese aioli). Here’s hoping they return in 2015.

I wondered where the hell you went. I even wrote the Pitch but they never wrote me back. Now I know why.
And, I wondered where the hell Driftwood was this year. Now I know that too. Best coleslaw ever, the brisket was good too but not many places make jam up coleslaw and they had it goin on!!
