The adult version of the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile is en route to Kansas City. Deschutes is bringing Woody — the oversized beer barrel (spoiler alert: it’s got beer taps inside) on wheels — for a week of events around the metro area they term ‘Base Camp for Beer Fanatics.’ [The full list of festivities is here.]
Woody will be at Bier Station (120 E Gregory Boulevard) on Monday, May 5, for a Cinco de Mayo party from 5 to 9 p.m. featuring the food truck Indios Carbonsitos and a randall of Deschutes Black Butte Porter with tequila-soaked oak chips in a glass rimmed with salt and lime. The following night, it’s ‘Hats off to Homebrewers,’ at Martin City Brewing Company (500 E 135th Street). On Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m., brewers from Oregon and Martin City will be there to talk shop and give out beer brewing supply samples. Tickets are $30, which includes beer, a commemorative snifter and some grub. Anton’s Taproom (1610 Main Street) is hosting a ‘Beef and Brew,’ patio party on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 10 p.m. with live music and Deschutes’ Fresh Squeezed IPA and Armory XPA.
The week ends with Beer-lesque — a comedy and burlesque show at Lagniappe (320 Southwest Boulevard) on Friday, May 9, from 8 to 11 p.m. The variety show’s highlight might be at intermission, when Deschutes cracks out its Black Butte XXV — the beer made for its 25th anniversary. Tickets are $5.
