Browne’s Irish Breakfast and other weekend possibilities

brownes-021414Browne’s Irish Marketplace (3300 Pennsylvania Avenue) has brought back its traditional Irish breakfast on Saturday mornings. Head over after 8 a.m. to stop any further productivity with a spread of eggs, beans, fried potatoes, soda bread, brown bread, scones, rashers, bangers and tomatoes. Wash it all down with fresh orange juice, Bewley’s Irish tea or Roasterie coffee. The breakfast is offered on Saturdays through March 15.

The Young Friends of Art are hosting a Valentine’s Day happy hour tonight at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak Street). There’s a cash bar and free chocolate samples in the Rockhill Room from 6 to 8 p.m.

A cook’s best friend can be their nose. Help yours discover how to blend oils, flowers and herbs as part of a class at Powell Gardens. Love is in the Air: Scented Sachet will be in the Visitor Center Grand Hall on Saturday, February 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. They’ll teach you how to combine herbs and fragrances to create a specific mood. No reservations are required and it’s $5 per sachet.

McCoy’s Public House (4057 Pennsylvania) now has its Imperial IPA on tap. It arrives with a wallop at 9.7 percent alcohol by volume.

The Wine Barn Winery and Vineyard (2850 N. 119th St., Kansas City, Kansas) has its Sweetheart Saturday tomorrow from 12 to 5 p.m. They light candles and bring out pairings of wine, cheese and dessert. If you can’t fall in love with this, your heart may be frozen. It’s $10 per couple. RSVPs are required. Call 913-721-5577 to make a reservation.
